KVK Anantnag (SKUAST-K) Organizes One-Day Awareness Programme on Weather-Based Apple Insurance Scheme KVK Anantnag, SKUAST-K organized a one-day awareness programme on the Weather-Based Apple Insurance Scheme in collaboration with the Division of Agrometeorology, SKUAST-K, with the objective of creating awareness among apple growers regarding risk management and crop protection through weather-based insurance mechanisms.
The programme witnessed active participation from farmers, orchardists, officials from the Department of Horticulture, representatives of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), scientists, and experts who deliberated on the importance of weather-based insurance in protecting apple growers against weather-related risks and uncertainties. During the programme, delegates from Smartex and ICICI Lombard provided a detailed briefing on the insurance policy, highlighting its objectives, coverage, benefits, eligibility criteria, and claim settlement procedures.
The delegates emphasized the role of weather-based insurance in minimizing financial risks associated with adverse weather events affecting apple orchards. Dr. Ishtiyaq A. Khan addressed the gathering and highlighted the significance of adopting weather-based insurance schemes as an effective risk mitigation strategy for horticultural farming systems.
He stressed the importance of enhancing farmer awareness and participation in such schemes for sustainable agricultural development. Dr. Sameera Qayoom, Head, Division of Agrometeorology, SKUAST-K, also delivered an informative session on the role of weather parameters in crop productivity and emphasized the importance of integrating weather advisories and insurance mechanisms to improve resilience among apple growers.
The programme concluded with an interactive session during which participants, including farmers, horticulture officials, and FPO representatives, raised queries related to policy implementation, premium structure, and claim procedures, which were addressed by experts and insurance delegates. Participants appreciated the initiative undertaken by KVK Anantnag in collaboration with the Division of Agrometeorology, SKUAST-K, for promoting awareness on climate-resilient and farmer-centric interventions.
