M/S Ahad Agro Farms, led by Mr. Abdul Ahad Lone, a progressive farmer from Semthan, Bijbehara, stands as an inspiring example of how a local challenge can be transformed into a thriving agri-enterprise through innovation, determination, and technical support.

Like many orchardists in the region, Mr. Abdul Ahad Lone faced persistent difficulties in sourcing quality vermicompost for his apple orchards and kitchen garden. The limited availability of reliable organic inputs not only affected crop management but also increased production costs. Rather than viewing this challenge as a constraint, he identified it as a promising business opportunity capable of benefiting both his farm and the wider farming community.

Driven by a vision to promote sustainable agriculture and organic nutrient management, Mr. Lone decided to establish a large-scale fortified vermicompost production unit under the banner of M/S Ahad Agro Farms. His goal was not only to meet his own farm requirements but also to create a dependable source of high-quality organic manure for farmers across the district.

To translate this vision into reality, Mr. Lone approached Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Anantnag, which provided comprehensive technical guidance and logistical support. Experts from KVK assisted him in understanding scientific vermicomposting techniques, selection of suitable earthworm species, preparation of nutrient-enriched fortified compost, infrastructure planning, quality control measures, and enterprise management practices.

With continuous handholding and technical mentorship from KVK Anantnag, the unit gradually evolved into a successful venture capable of producing high-quality fortified vermicompost tailored to the nutritional needs of orchards, vegetable crops, and household gardens. The enterprise has contributed significantly to promoting organic and sustainable farming practices in the region while reducing farmers' dependence on externally sourced inputs.
