KVK-Anantnag, SKUAST-K Organizes “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” Programme; Hundreds Participate in Anti-Drug Awareness Rally Anantnag, May 11: As part of the nationwide Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)-Anantnag, SKUAST-K today organized a massive awareness programme against drug abuse at its campus, witnessing enthusiastic participation from hundreds of school students, government officials, civil society members, religious leaders, farmers, academicians, and youth representatives.
Students from prominent educational institutions including Radiant Public School and KVK-adopted Government High School Kreeri participated actively in the programme and pledged to contribute towards building a drug-free society. The programme was attended by senior officers from the civil administration and Police Department, including Parvaiz Rahim, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Welcoming the guests and participants, Dr. Ishtiyaq A. Khan highlighted the growing need for collective societal action to eradicate the menace of drug addiction. Delivering a powerful and motivating address to the students and youth, Dr. Khan remarked that the age they are presently in has the potential to shape them either into responsible citizens or lead them astray, and that “the choice is entirely theirs.” Referring to the message of the Hon’ble Prime Minister under the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign, Dr. Khan stressed the importance of adopting the “3 Ds” — Determination, Dedication, and Discipline — to fight the menace of substance abuse.

He cautioned that failure to follow the path of discipline could push youth towards another set of “3 Ds” — Darkness, Destruction, and Devastation. Dr. Khan also elaborated upon the journey of KVK-Anantnag, stating that the institution has evolved not merely as a scientific and agricultural extension institution but also as a socially responsible organization committed to addressing key societal concerns affecting rural communities and youth. Speaking on the occasion, the SHO-Doru from the Police Department sensitized the participants regarding the legal implications of drug abuse and narcotics trafficking. He urged students, parents, and society at large to remain vigilant against drug peddlers and suspicious activities.
He also discussed the forward and backward linkages associated with illegal substances and highlighted the stringent legal provisions and actions being implemented against those involved in the narcotics trade. Earlier, noted social and environmental activist Dr. Jan Waseem appreciated the efforts of the Government, particularly the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, for vigorously launching awareness campaigns and interventions aimed at eradicating the drug menace from society. Speaking on the occasion, Parvaiz Rahim emphasized the need for coordinated community participation, awareness, and youth engagement to effectively combat drug addiction and safeguard future generations.
A pledge ceremony was also organized wherein all participants collectively resolved to work towards making Anantnag, Jammu & Kashmir, and India drug-free by spreading awareness and promoting healthy lifestyles. The gathering raised slogans of “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life” with great enthusiasm. The programme concluded with a large awareness rally from the KVK-Anantnag campus to adjoining villages, during which participants carried placards and raised anti-drug slogans to sensitize the general public about the harmful effects of substance abuse.
